Catching Up on Lost Time

Today´s long drive helped us realized that we have forgotten to post a few cool/funny things that have happened during the trip. So even though they are terribly late and out of order, here they are in all of their glory.

First things first we had a monumento "border" crossing before getting to Zacatecas. Although not officially a country border we did cross the Tropic of Cancer which is the official boundary between Gringo and Latino. Although we had already been in Mexico for quite a ways, the northern parts of Mexico are pretty much full of American companies looking for cheap labor. Crossing the Tropic of Cancer really helped us see what Mexico is all about. And what it is all about is Volkswagen Beetles. Those things are everywhere, but I digress. The crossing of the Tropic of Cancer was especially important for me as I am a total gringo and have only been south of it twice and both times to former British colonies (Hong Kong and British Virgin Islands) so it doesn´t really count. The pictures below highlight this momentous occasion. At first Greg and I were hesitant to cross, but then Jose welcomed us both into the Latin world.

The second event isn´t as big of a deal, but we still found it pretty humorous. While walking around Mexico City, a place notoriously dangerous for theft, murders and rapes we saw a ton of cops, but none of the ever seemed to be doing anything. Likewise while driving around Mexico City we saw a bunch of traffic cops, but no one ever pulled us over even when Jose would run a red light and then make a left turn across three lanes of traffic (quite the manuever that Greg was also able to master) right in front of a cop and nothing happened. The only time we ever saw the cops do anything was when we were walking by a couple heavy petting on a park bench and a cop got on the loudspeaker in his car and told them to "get a room". Or at least that is what Greg and I like to think he said as it was in Spanish and Jose didn´t hear it. Either way the couple stopped making out. It makes me feel a little safer knowing that PDA isn´t allowed in Mexico City.

The last big event had to due with the last two restless evenings. I´ll let Greg explain why last night was restless, but two nights ago was pretty bad as well. As Jose mentioned in his blog on the last day in Mexico city we didn´t wake up until roughly 10:00. This actually was no fault of our own as we had a long day in Mexico City and actually decided to go to bed early and we were all asleep by 23:00. Unfortunately at around 1:00 we received a phone call in the hotel room from a possibly drunk chick (name hidden to protect the guilty) who wanted to speak to Greg. After being awakened by the phone call we all tossed and turned in bed for an hour or so trying to fall back asleep. Although the chick did have a sexy voice so I had pleasant dreams once I did fall asleep. Hopefully tonight I can catch up on some lost sleep as I get my own bed after being basically pushed off the bed I shared with Jose last night. I don´t know how Muoi does it.

LOL! Todd, I'll share, but don't try this at home, kids.

First, you pick the side of the bed with a wall or other bracing feature. Or a soft spot to land on (create your own, if you must).

Next, you train yourself to flow like water. Whatever shape the glass is, that's what you become!

And finally, just hang on for dear life...but wait, aren't you the one who watched that movie??
